Osteoarthritis is a debilitating disease that affects mostly adults; the number of those afflicted progressing as one ages towards 65 years old.  It is characterized by chronic pain and stiffness in the joints. Go through the checklist below to check if you have the symptoms of osteoarthritis.

  1. Do you have bony knobs either at the end joints or middle joints of your fingers.
  2. Are your fingers enlarged or stubbier than normal and have deformed into a gnarled state?
  3. Do your knees hurt when you bend them or when you walk?
  4. Are your knees swollen and tender or painful to touch?
  5. Does it take much effort to rise out of chairs and stand up from a seated posture?
  6. Do you experience a burning spasm going through your hips?
  7. Do you tend to waddle when you walk because of stiffness in your hips and knees?
  8. Do you feel certain numbness in the arms or legs because your spine is stiff?
  9. Do you hear a crackling sound when you move a joint, like your knee or hip?
  10. Do you experience a shortened or limited range in motion?

If you answered yes to most of the questions above, there is a great probability that you are suffering from osteoarthritis already.  While there are no identified definite cures for arthritis, there are a number of arthritis cures that can relieve arthritic pain and stiffness.  A usual arthritis cure is to either apply hot compress to the aching hand joints or hip joints or a cold compress to the aching knee joint. There are a number of other arthritic cures like stretches and isometric exercises aimed at strengthening the tendons and ligaments around the joints.  Another option is to explore natural arthritis cures like drinking a tea decoction of ginger for its anti-inflammatory effects on the joints or even eating curries that have turmeric that also contains an anti-inflammatory ingredient that mimics arthritis medications.  Early detection and management is key to augmenting the situation where there is no known cure for arthritis.
